Office of Legal Aid

The Office of Legal Aid has been recently renovated through the generosity of Prof. Gabby Dee, ‘86 who was the first awardee of Best OLA Intern.

At the reception area of the OLA office is an imposing painting of the signing of the 1935 Constitution painted by Ireneo L. Miranda in 1951. According to the inscription, the painting was donated by the Law Student Government Officers of 1955-1956. Ireneo Miranda of San Fernando, Pampanga was a watercolorist, cartoonist, painter, and educator who took up Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines and graduated in 1916. He was known as the Dean of Philippine Cartoonists. While he used watercolor, this painting medium is oil like his more popular painting the 20 year old Tausug princess who went on to become Senator Santanina Rasul. This painting is at the National Museum of Fine Arts. Miranda was a contemporary of Fernando Amorsolo and mentored a number of Filipino artists who eventually became National Artists and eminent painters such as Carlos "Botong" Francisco, Cesar Legaspi, and Abdulmari Imao.

The renovated OLA office has separate meeting rooms for the interns to be able to interview their clients. There is also a conference room for meetings like in a law firm, and here we have the room of the OLA Director, Prof. Theodore Te ‘90.
