Fred Ruiz Castro Room

Chief Justice Fred Ruiz Castro was a member of UP Law Class of 1936 and among his classmates were another Supreme Court Justice Antonio Barredo, and another familiar name, Potenciano K. Ilusorio.

Unlike other rooms which house simply a portrait, this room contains the memorabilia of CJ Castro.

A curiosity here is an original signed letter by former President Marcos ‘39.

This room also contains his gavel and a 1901 third edition copy of Noli Me Tangere with the notarial seal of Fred Ruiz Castro and his name handwritten by him on the book.

The bust here is a creation of Fermin Y. Gomez in 1981. The sculptor Gomez was a graduate of the University of the Philippines and was a student and protegee of Guillermo Tolentino who is the sculptor of the Oblation and the Bonifacio Monument in Caloocan.

This room is used by members of the faculty in between their classes.
